Ayiti

HAITI. A poor country, made even poorer in a matter of a minute. Haiti is THE poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. There are 10 million people, living in a country a little smaller than Maryland. It is impossible to wrap our greatest imagination around that. In this country, most Haitians live on $2 a day. On January 12, 2010 at 4:53 p.m an earthquake, with the size of 7.0, ravished the country of Haiti. Many have perished and many more are trying to survive. As a child of the God who created this Earth, we have no possible way to rationalize why this earthquake occurred. However, there is a purpose, and that purpose is an opportunity to preach Christ. This does not always mean PREACH Christ, but this is an opportunity for outreach, even a ministry. Furthermore, opportunity has knocked in the form of a small Gatorade bottle. This small bottle can hold a life, for those living in Haiti. This small bottle can hold more than what most Haitians make in one day. Can you imagine that? A Gatorade bottle that we drink and toss away, can save lives….God is holding this opportunity and is knocking at your door….

At the QCOG headquarters, we started a  fund to raise money for Haiti, using small Gatorade bottles. Each church member received a small Gatorade bottle, but with specific instructions. The instructions were to drink the Gatorade inside the bottle, empty the bottle, and to fill it with money. Now, this money is not just any money! Whenever anyone gets the urge to purchase a drink such as a soda, juice, or coffee, they must deposit that money into the bottle, instead of buying the beverage. Moreover, they should drink water in place of what they would have bought. Then, on February 7th, 2010, the money is to be collected, tallied, and send to Haiti. Anyone can join in this ministry…starts with a small Gatorade bottle….and a prayer…

So far..so good. Everyone cooperated and brought in their bottles, but we do have some more to go. Props to those who came up with the idea :)

Well a monetary update – $600 from checks, cash is $200+, haven’t got to the change yet – but the goal is $1000. We still have a bunch of people that haven’t given their bottles in yet. I think we’re all pretty excited…
